Two minutes with… Denise Chilton

What do you actually do day-to-day?  Like every business owner everyday is different which is part of the appeal. One day I maybe coaching a leader or manager who is wanting to develop their leadership skills or facing a difficult challenge. The next day I might be in a business delivering my Everyday Manager workshop for new and aspiring managers.

Have you ever had a mentor? If so, who?  On of my first mentors was a master coach called Sandra Richardson who was part of the training faculty when I was in training over 15 years ago. She perfectly role modelled the type of coach I wanted to be. I like to think that I have been able to inherit a lot of what she shared about how to be an effective coach.

Does money motivate you? Not particularly. I am much more motivated by helping people get the outcomes they are looking for. People should feel at the end of a coaching assignment or training workshop that the investment in their own development was worthwhile.

What has been the most important event in your working life?  In 2017 I won Northern Power Women Mentor of the Year for my work supporting women working in STEM. As a coach you work behind the scenes to support your clients so to be recognised for that– well it was a huge honour.

Who do you most admire?  In  the Liverpool City Region Maggie O Carroll., Founder and CEO of The Womens Organisation, She has tirelessly championed women entrepreneurs in the city and beyond and is an all round lovely person. TWO in the early days has been fundamental to my success today.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership starts from the inside out. The best leaders are self aware, emotionally intelligent, are able to listen so others feel heard and have the courage to be vulnerable.
