Woolton Picture House 1927

We would like to ask you to support our campaign to purchase, renovate and re-open
the fantastic and historic, Woolton Picture House, Liverpool’s oldest single screen
cinema which celebrates its 100th anniversary in December 2027.

Woolton Picture House has been closed to the public for five years since Covid.
Earlier this year, the local community came together, led by the team who
transformed the Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool, to form a Community Interest
Company (CIC). The aim of the CIC is to purchase this much-loved cinema and bring
it back to life as a thriving, welcoming hub for Woolton Villagers and for people
across the city region and beyond to enjoy.

In response to a series of public consultations, we ran a programme of festive films in
the 12 days before Christmas to help raise awareness for our fundraising campaign
and provide people with the opportunity to experience the much-loved Woolton
Picture House once more. The response to opening the doors for this short
programme of films was overwhelming. Over 100 volunteers sold 7,300 tickets, 1,500
buckets of popcorn and 2,000 interval ice creams adding over £60,000 to our
fundraising efforts bringing the total raised to date to just over £230,000. Local
businesses stepped up in countless ways donating their time and skills, supporting us
with huge amounts of in-kind support. Without all of them, re-opening the cinema
would not have been possible and we can’t thank everyone enough.

We bring in the new year with a renewed sense of purpose, encouraged by the
response to opening the doors of Woolton Picture House again and we’d like to ask
for your help to keep the momentum going.

It would be a huge boost to our campaign if we could count on you to act as advocates
for our campaign and if possible, make a donation to help us secure Woolton Picture
House for the wider community.

With warm wishes,
