Two Minutes With… John McCreanney

Name: John McCreanney

Company: MSB Solicitors

Position: Partner

What do you actually do day-to-day? My days are never quite the same, which is part of the appeal. I deal with a variety of litigation cases, which means a mix of advising clients, drafting and reviewing pleadings, and figuring out the best way to resolve disputes, whether that’s over the negotiating table or in court. There’s also a fair bit of problem solving on the fly. No two cases throw up the same combination of facts and legal twists, which keeps things interesting. On top of that, as a partner, I help steer the team, mentoring junior lawyers, delegating work, and making sure our approach hits the sweet spot between what the client needs and MSB’s standards.

What experiences or influences guided you toward your current profession? I’ve always enjoyed debate and strategy, figuring out the best approach and thinking several moves ahead. Law felt like a natural fit. Every case is a test of logic, persuasion, and planning.

What’s the best advice you have ever received? Control the controllables.

What does leadership mean to you? Spotting potential, giving people the confidence to take on challenges, and supporting them as they grow. It’s less about telling people what to do and more about helping them reach their best.

What has been your favourite Professional Liverpool event and why? / If you are a new member, which event are you most looking forward to attending and why? The Mersey Ferry party. The boat was rocking, the dance floor was packed, and everyone was well oiled. A night that will live long in the memory!

What’s your favourite TV programme? Cheers!

How do you relax? A pint in the local pub after a hard week does the trick every time.

Which do you prefer: sweets or chocolate? And what’s your favourite? Chocolate. Whilst not technically a chocolate bar, it has to be a Mars ice cream.

Pub or club? Pub.

Do you have any hobbies? I enjoy long walks in the countryside around where I live. They’re a great way to clear my head and recharge away from the day-to-day.

Go to karaoke song? Hey Jude.

Favourite venue in Liverpool? The Dispensary.
