2 Mins With… Marion Reilly

Company:   Rathbones

Position: Senior Director – Wealth Planning

What do you actually do day-to-day?

I help individuals and families make informed decisions about their finances, supporting them with investment planning, retirement planning, estate planning and wealth preservation. No two days are ever the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about the role. Every client has a unique story, and I feel privileged to help them navigate some of life’s most important decisions.

Have you ever had a mentor? If so, who?

Never formally, but I’ve been fortunate to have several close friends in the financial services industry who have provided invaluable support, guidance and perspective throughout my career. Their encouragement and honest advice have helped shape both my professional development and leadership style.

Does money motivate you?

Not money itself, but the freedom, security and choices that financial independence can provide.

What has been the most important event in your working life?

Looking back, the most important moment in my working life wasn’t a specific day, but a shift in mindset. It was recognising that the greatest impact I can have is through helping others succeed, whether that’s a client gaining confidence about their financial future or a colleague developing into a capable and confident professional. That realisation has shaped the leader I am today and remains the most meaningful aspect of my work.

Who do you most admire?

I most admire my mum. Her resilience, kindness and unwavering support of others have shaped who I am today. She taught me that true success isn’t measured by what you achieve for yourself, but by the positive impact you have on the people around you.

What does leadership mean to you?

For me, Leadership is about inspiring confidence, empowering others and helping people realise their potential. It’s not about having all the answers, but about creating an environment where people feel supported, valued and able to become the very best version of themselves.

What’s your favourite TV programme?

Any crime drama, but Line of Duty is definitely up there amongst my favourites.

How do you relax?

Listening to audiobooks, especially when I’m out walking or enjoying some downtime.

Fry up or healthy smoothie?

Definitely a fry up.

Pub or club?

Pub, every time.

Gym or countryside walk?

Countryside walk.

Favourite piece of music?

Anything by Lionel Richie, but if I had to choose just one song, it would be All Night Long.

Flannels or Florence & Fred?

I do love Flannels, but I have been known to get an item or two during the weekly shop!

Birkdale or Birkenhead?

Raised in South Liverpool and now living in Widnes, I’m contractually obliged to say neither!
