Professional Liverpool in Conversation with Torus

A dynamic growth and regeneration group with a social purpose, Torus works in partnership with Liverpool City Region and the North West region to fuel the delivery of new affordable homes and support thriving, vibrant communities.

Community-focused place-making is an essential component in Torus’ mission; the pandemic has only intensified the need for bold interventions that respond to changing need and drive the inclusive growth and renewal agenda. Join us on 19 May as we explain the critical role that affordable housing has in the Region of The Future, and how this approach to shaping the places that we operate in for the good of the community defines Torus’ approach to investment and development.

The event will highlight how embedding principles of multi-generational, connected, post-COVID living into new affordable housing is creating a new generation of inclusive, sustainable homes for today and tomorrow.

Torus Chief Financial Officer, Peter Fieldsend, will begin proceedings by setting out Torus’ mission of ‘Growing Stronger Communities’. Peter will also discuss the new Corporate Plan and Torus’ place-making ambitions.

Kate Ellison, Torus’ Director of Housing Growth and Partnerships, will then show this approach in action by putting the spotlight on Melwood. Kate will showcase how the iconic West Derby site epitomises Torus’ principles; she will focus on:

• The site and its meaning to the community

• Shaping the development in partnership – through strategic partnerships and proactive public consultation and engagement

• Principles for sustainable, multi-generational living:

 Extra care homes, responding to local need

 Family living, bringing affordable ownership tenures into an affluent area

 Implementing post COVID-19 design standards

 Sustainability and the green agenda
