Two Minutes With… Stuart Capstick

Name: Stuart Capstick

Company:  Glenville Walker

Position: Legal Director

What do you actually do day-to-day?

I am a Solicitor and Legal Director; my role now being exclusively business development.  I meet daily with my referral-introducer network to support them and to gain reciprocal referrals and introductions to new businesses to explore how we can help them in their journey.  Contact me for a coffee and a chat!

Have you ever had a mentor? If so, who?

A former colleague Andrew Ormrod and I were mentor and mentee for a 12 month period.  It was a hugely, mutually beneficial experience.  Lovely guy and great lawyer – and author.

Does money motivate you?

We all need money of course, but it is not my primary driver. I enjoy meeting and helping people.

What has been the most important event in your working life?

I have really enjoyed my varied 25 years in practice, working with clients and resolving all manner of disputes from serious injury claims, abuse claims, professional negligence, contentious probate and general litigation matters.

A particular high point was winning the contract for legal service provider for a national union to handle its employment and litigation work.  This later informed my decision to move exclusively into business development for legal services.

Who do you most admire?

Anyone who bravely takes the step outside of their comfort zone.

What does leadership mean to you?

Emotional intelligence – balancing compassion and listening with decisive action

What’s your favourite TV programme?

I don’t really watch a lot of TV; but I do like bingeing on streaming films/series.  My favourite are biopics and real-life dramas.

How do you relax?

I enjoy running for exercise.  I also enter organised runs albeit I am not remotely competitive.  I am frontman in The Doors Rising and being on stage is like nothing on earth.  Whatever your interest – running – music – sport; I think it all amounts to the same thing.  That one activity that allows you to completely zone out from the day-to-day worries and be carried along in the moment.

Fry up or healthy smoothie?

Fry up – lots of protein – just ditch the toast

Pub or club?

Anywhere there’s live music – Il go and watch anything.  It’s all good

Gym or countryside walk?

Definitely outdoors.  I go out running as much as I can and the scenery is as important as the exercise.

Favourite piece of music?

I don’t really have a favourite and will go and listen to anything live.  Naturally I love the entire Doors catalogue and I’m often asked for a favourite of those songs but it changes all the time.  Today – Shaman’s Blues.

Flannels or Florence & Fred?

I do like a nice, tailored suit.

Birkdale or Birkenhead?

Birkenhead is my hometown.  Birkdale was my first gig.
