Two Minutes With… Lucy Byrne

Name:  Lucy Byrne

Company:  dot-art

Position:  Managing Director

What do you actually do day-to-day?  Good question! Apart from the necessary but dull work of keeping a business running, I am lucky enough to spend my time working with partners to develop creative projects like giant outdoor murals and artist in residence schemes, and helping businesses select and commission the perfect artwork from local artists to complement their spaces. My small but mighty team do the hard work on our school programmes, but I also oversee these and am incredibly proud of the impact we have had on tens of thousands of young creative lives.

Have you ever had a mentor? If so, who?  No

Does money motivate you? No one who works in the arts is motivated by money!

What has been the most important event in your working life?  Starting dot-art 19 years ago.

What does leadership mean to you? Building a genuine culture of respect, honesty and integrity. Sticking to your values and supporting those around you.

What’s your favourite TV programme?  Wolf Hall

How do you relax? Reading and running. I came to it later in life, after always being a rather reluctant exerciser, but now getting outside to run, whatever the weather, is a non-negotiable for me.

Fry up or healthy smoothie? Smoothie (unless it was a veggie fry up, then I might be tempted!)

Pub or club? Pub

Gym or countryside walk?  Countryside walk

Flannels or Florence & Fred?  Flannels

Birkdale or Birkenhead?  Birkenhead (big fan of Future Yard!)
