Name: Leon McCowan
Company: Professional Liverpool, The Sales Dojo and Your Business Mobile
Position: Membership Engagement Manager, Director, Director
What do you actually do day-to-day? PL – My role is to ensure members are listened to, engaged (in activities and events) and connected (with other members of the PL membership and my wider network in LCR).
Sales Dojo – Sales training, coaching and mentoring, putting 25 years of sales training and management to best use helping others to sell more.
Your Business Mobile – new business development, finding and helping small business owners with digital transformation.
Have you ever had a mentor? If so, who? Yes, many over the years, (currently I have one for my beekeeping), far too many to name them all but the greatest I ever had and the one I strive to emulate every day is John Haynes.
Does money motivate you? I have been in sales and thought that it did for around 10-15 years, but in the last ten when I have focused less on the money I have managed to find more of it strangely.
What has been the most important event in your working life? This may be strange but being made redundant was pivotal in 2011. At the time it was awful but it was a great catalyst to doing my own thing and all that’s come since.
Who do you most admire? My Dad is my biggest inspiration, his work ethic and the amazing love he has shown me and my siblings makes me proud every day.
What does leadership mean to you? The true measure of great leadership is to empower other leaders and I have always tried to do this.
What’s your favourite TV programme? I am right now really engrossed in a series called “Alone” which is basically they drop 12 people off in the middle of the Antarctic with 10 survival items and see who can last the longest. Outside this I love crime documentaries on Netflix (other steaming platforms are available).
How do you relax? Few things, on my allotment lots weather permitting, with the dogs in the garden or with Frankie at the kitchen table eating !
Fry up or healthy smoothie? Fry Up all day.
Pub or club? I don’t drink anymore so I would say neither, when I was a drinker I was a clubber for sure.
Gym or countryside walk? Countryside Walk.
Favourite piece of music? There are far too many to pick one so I will if you don’t mind mention three. Mario Lanza – The Loveliest Night of The Year, Xavier Rudd – Follow The Sun and The Sugar Hill Gang – Rappers Delight.
Flannels or Florence & Fred? Neither of those really cater for taller men so I would say neither and either High & Mighty or Slaters Menswear.
Birkdale or Birkenhead? Both full of wools.
