Two minutes with… Daniel Meyer-Lopez

Name: Daniel Meyer-Lopez

Company:  Hybrid HR Limited.

Position: Director/Founder

What do you actually do day-to-day?  Advise businesses on all aspects of HR, employment law and people management.

Have you ever had a mentor? If so, who?  Not a formal one, but one of my previous bosses Paddy Scully has always been an amazing influence in my career and business journey. She’s a wonderful person and a very savvy businesswoman.

Does money motivate you? Only to the extent that it gives you freedom of choice. I didn’t start my business to become a millionaire, I just wanted to be able to have a nice lifestyle with the flexibility that comes from running your own business.

What has been the most important event in your working life? Qualifying as a solicitor as that was where it all started from.

Who do you most admire?  I admire lots of people but I think Hilary Devey was an amazing business woman. I read her autobiography last year and one thing that stood out to me about being in business is resilience. When you get knocked down, you get up, dust yourself off and carry on. Being in business isn’t easy, if it was, everyone would do it, so you have to just keep going!

What does leadership mean to you? True leadership is someone who respects their team, gives them autonomy to make decisions and listens to them.

What’s your favourite TV programme?  Schitt’s Creek!

How do you relax?  Gym, reading, laying on a sunbed or listening to music.

Fry up or healthy smoothie? Fry up.

Pub or club? Pub.

Gym or countryside walk?  Country walk.

Favourite piece of music?  Everything by Michael Buble as it was our first dance. I can never skip it when it comes on the playlist!

Flannels or Florence & Fred?  Flannels but I don’t go there very often!

Birkdale or Birkenhead?  Birkdale as that’s where I had my first date with my husband.
