Head of Civil & Commercial Litigation

What do you actually do day-to-day?

Assist clients in solving disputes – either through negotiation or litigation.   Mentor a team with a wide range of disputes – everything from commercial disputes to families falling out about wills, from landlord tenant issues to disputes about who owns what in property.

Have you ever had a mentor? If so, who?

Two spring to mind – Phil Pawley, a Kiwi who used to be the chaplain at Saints RL.  Sadly returned to New Zealand but still see him annually.

And David Skews – a sage businessman in the Health & Safety field.

Does money motivate you?

Yes with 2 kids at university, but I get more satisfaction in making a positive difference for a client.

What has been the most important event in your working life?

Successfully negotiating a group action for hundreds of consumers against a lender.

Who do you most admire?

Nelson Mandela – to be able to forgive and lead with courage after all he’d been through.

What does leadership mean to you?

Helping people to grow & achieve their potential.

What’s your favourite TV programme?

Currently – the BBC 1 series on Big Cats.  Some of the photography is amazing.   But also, NFL highlights

How do you relax?

Hockey and cycling.  In winter – snowboarding when I can ! (with a you tube channel for all the family falls)

Fry up or healthy smoothie?

Fry up (hence the need to exercise !)

Pub or club?

Pub

Gym or countryside walk?

Country walk – especially around Pennington Flash

Favourite piece of music?

U2 Joshua Tree – amazing to see the entire album live a couple of years back

Flannels or Florence & Fred?

Realistically F&F, but I have a lot more snowboard related clothing !

Birkdale or Birkenhead?

I’ve spent more time at Birkenhead County court – so probably the latter.
