CG launches dedicated data and AI legal advisory service with strategic appointment

Leading North West law firm CG has announced the appointment of Jonny Caldwell, as Partner, alongside the launch of a dedicated data and AI legal advisory service.

The new service marks a significant step in the firm’s strategic growth and reflects its commitment to leading in emerging areas of legal risk and regulation.

Commenting on the launch, Louise Myers, Founder and Managing Partner at CG, said: “AI is developing at pace, and many businesses are already using it without fully understanding the legal and regulatory implications. This is an area that demands specialist focus.

“By investing early in this capability, we’re the only law firm in the Liverpool City Region with a dedicated specialist practicing solely in this area. We are helping clients manage legal risk proactively, stay compliant in a rapidly shifting environment and integrate new technologies with confidence as their businesses evolve.

“Appointing Jonny and launching a dedicated data & AI advisory service allows us to provide clients with highly focused, proactive support in a fast-moving and increasingly complex legal landscape. It reflects our ambition to lead rather than follow in legal innovation and we’re excited to welcome Jonny onboard.”

Jonny joins CG having trained and qualified with global law firm DLA Piper in its Intellectual Property and Technology Group. During his time at the firm, he advised clients on data protection, privacy and technology matters before moving in-house within DLA Piper itself, where he supported the firm’s own data protection work across Europe, the Middle East and Asia. This role gave him first-hand experience of managing complex, cross-border regulatory frameworks within a large international organisation, alongside a deep understanding of how legal risk is managed in practice at scale.

Jonny said: “CG’s decision to invest in a new data & AI offering demonstrates their forward thinking and is a clear statement about the importance of this area for clients. Having worked both in private practice and in-house within an international law firm, I understand the challenges organisations face when technology develops faster than regulation. I’m looking forward to working with clients to provide clear, practical advice that helps them manage data protection risk and use AI confidently while staying compliant and protected.”

Jonny will be based out of CG’s Liverpool office but will work across the firm’s locations and with clients wherever they are based, reflecting the national and international nature of data and AI-related legal challenges.

Louise added: “This new workstream goes beyond traditional data protection support. It is designed to give clients specialist, AI-focused advice that reflects the realities of how quickly this technology is being adopted, often without clear policies or settled legal precedent.
