Name: Elaine Courtney
Company: Courtney Recruitment Ltd
Position: Director
What do you actually do day-to-day? I’m usually either seeing clients, discussing the finer details of senior management level roles we’re working on, or interviewing senior level candidates.
Have you ever had a mentor? If so, who? Not really, I’ve had people who have motivated me to be better purely by being who they are, but not in a mentoring capacity as such.
Does money motivate you? Not as such. Being able to give my daughter a nice life motivates me (she’s 11 now), and I’d say a combination of money and the freedom being your own boss give you means I can give her the life she deserves.
What has been the most important event in your working life? Starting Courtney Recruitment 9 years ago (Watch out, 10 year anniversary coming up!), I was on a mission with a massively determined mindset to help companies bring in the perfect person for every single role, a bespoke service every time, to provide a game changing service different from anything else!
Who do you most admire? My parents; my Dad who passed in 2007 was a kind, mild mannered man who always did right by people, and my Mum who we thankfully still have, who is a strong, caring, dependable woman who always does everything she can to make our lives easier and better, I’m blessed to have had such amazing influences in my life
What does leadership mean to you? Being the platform, the strong dependable reliable foundation, upon which your team can do their thing, play to their strengths, learn, develop, work together, improve every single day. My role is facilitate, enable, train, support – and pick up the stuff that others don’t really feel sits within their role, while keeping an eye on what’s coming down the road
What’s your favourite TV programme? Tricky as I’m a Netflix fan so it changes all the time, but in essence, I love a good crime drama, and hospital dramas.
How do you relax? Having music on around the house, no TV
Fry up or healthy smoothie? Used to be a fry up, but these days, it’s a Protein Shake!
Pub or club? OMG, pub, with comfy chairs and music that’s not too loud so you can chat to whoever you’re with. If it’s got a real fire, even better, I’m settling in. If it’s got an app for drinks to be brought to your table, I’m never leaving.
Gym or countryside walk? Countryside walk, or a walk anywhere really, with the dog running about off the lead, I get an inordinate amount of endorphins when my dog is off lead, running around happy
Favourite piece of music? Hanz Zimmer – Time, but then there’s also Mussorgskys Pictures at an Exhibition which is, I think mind blowing! And then there’s Debussys Clair de Lune, how do you decide?
Flannels or Florence & Fred? Florence & Fred
Birkdale or Birkenhead? Not that I go to Birkdale as such, but I’m a North Liverpool girl, born and bred (can I still say ‘girl’ at my ripe old age now?), I live in Crosby so Birkdale is, I suppose more my neck of the woods.
