The Everyman & Playhouse will receive a grant of £390,000 from the Garfield Weston Foundation to invest in its productions and develop an improved digital theatre offer for the future.

Following successful application to the Weston Culture Fund, the grant will be used to improve the theatres’ live streaming capacity, to work closely with local freelancers to develop exciting and forward-thinking theatre, and to help us stage live productions in our venues when we are safely able to do so again.

The £30 million Weston Culture Fund was created in response to Covid-19. Its aim is to support the sector to restart its work, refresh activities and re-engage audiences following Covid-19 closures.

From over 300 applications, the theatres were one of 106 selected from across the UK, with 11 organisations in total chosen from the North West.

Mark Da Vanzo, chief executive, said: “I would like to send my sincere gratitude to the Garfield Weston Trustees for recognising the detrimental impact of Covid-19 on the cultural sector and supporting our organisation through the Weston Culture Fund. Their support will allow us to explore the future of theatre beyond Covid-19, continue to support our local freelance community and expand our digital offer to audiences.

“We have worked tirelessly to continue to bring theatre to the people of Liverpool, and beyond, during these trying times. To be recognised in this way is testament to the incredible efforts of our Board and staff team.”

The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family-founded grant making trust that supports charities of all shapes and sizes across the UK. Visit www.garfieldweston.org for more information on how to apply for future grants and funding.
