Providing an alternative method of learning to youngsters from across the Liverpool City Region, St Helens-based, MD Creatives, is now recruiting for the new school year, and is set to welcome a cohort of fresh young talent into its ground-breaking, new academy.
Located in the town centre, MD Creatives is an independent provider, offering accredited, creative programmes and courses in performing arts, hairdressing, make-up, photography and more. Qualifications on offer include BTEC, HND and HNC in Performing Arts, and accreditations by Open Awards, NCSE and Arts Awards, with programmes and courses available for most ages.
What sets MD apart from other establishments is its ethos and mission that goes far beyond the final grade. MD Creatives is an inclusive home for creative learning where anything is possible - welcoming young people and adults from all backgrounds, and helping them to grow in confidence, enhance social and communication skills, develop awareness of local issues in the community, improve personal health and well-being, develop caring and respectful relationships and teamwork, and hone their talents.
MD Creatives was established in 2018 by Miguel Doforo, who with his earlier project, MD Productions, was a three-time semi-finalists on Britain's Got Talent, and who has performed for The Royal Family.
Miguel Doforo, creative director of MD Creatives, said:
“MD Creatives is very much a vehicle for kids who are seeking an alternative or additional pathway to traditional education, and to learn and pursue their professional and personal dreams in a different way.
“While we offer accredited vocational training, we are so much more than just singing and dancing. Performing arts is not just about the stage, it’s recognising every part of the creative journey as an enhancement to life skills. Here at MD Creatives we are an inclusive family, supporting each other to succeed and be the individuals we want to be - think of us as St Helen's answer to the X-Mansion from X-Men!
“We want to nurture and showcase the wealth of young talent here in the St Helens’ community and the wider city region.”
The new academy features a recording studio, salon, performance area and hot desk space. It also includes the ‘I Care’ zone - a safe space for those youngsters in need, complete with a therapist and pastoral support.
