A team of now 40 plus girls around Liverpool have come together to sew cotton face masks for NHS, Community Care Workers, Social Out Reach Teams and Front-facing shop staff, etc.

The team was brought together by Carol Powell, after her niece a Marie Curie Nurse told her how short they were of PPE, and asked her if she could help her hospice.

It became apparent that the need for face masks was huge and a through the power of Facebook and a post shared 221 times, 40 wonderful women signed up to either to sew, cut out, or help distribute the masks.

Some are professional dress makers & designers, others just sew as a hobby. They are all giving their time for free and we have been donated some amazing supplies from Miller & McKew, Florence Roby and The Fabric Place but we really need more cotton fabric and elastic.

There are now main 4 main hubs across the City with Carol in Walton, Jackie Wynn in West Derby, Kathleen Vicars in Fairfield and Carol Dempsey and Jackie Fairbrother in Kirkby.

The movement has also inspired ladies in Glasgow to start their own groups, such is the need.

We have had requests for and supplied over 1500 masks in less than a week to The Marie Curie, The Royal, Aintree, The Women’s, Alder Hey, The Walton Centre, Walk in Centres, Pharmacies, Halewood District Nurses, numerous care homes & community carers as well as Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys & The Royal Mail.

The ladies are not only helping all of our Health Care and Key Workers but we are improving our own mental health in such scary and unpredictable time just by knowing we all giving something back to these fabulous people, even in such a small way.

To find out how to get involved, or how you can donate fabric/components, please get in touch with:
