Kirkby based community groups and organisations are taking part in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style event with the chance to secure funding to help create safer communities.
On Saturday 22 February 2020 from 1pm to 5pm, Merseyside Police’s Violence Reduction Partnership present Kirkby Together.
Thirteen groups from the local community will have the chance to give a 2 minute pitch, presenting their idea for an event, workshop or course that gives young people in the area the opportunity to develop new skills, make friends and build their confidence. After the groups have presented, the audience – made up of supporters and the wider community – will be invited to vote for who they think should receive funding.
Taking part at All Saints Catholic High School, Roughwood Drive, Northwood, Kirkby, L33 8XF the event will be a celebration of the community with performances from Farleys Community Choir during the important voting process.
The successful groups and organisations will be announced on the day and will be awarded up to £2,000 to put their ideas into reality – and make a positive difference in their community.
Superintendent Mark Wiggins, head of Merseyside’s Violence Reduction Partnership said:
“We are really pleased to support Kirkby Together, and help this community to influence the way they tackle issues that directly impact people’s health and wellbeing – especially when to comes to reducing the levels of serious violence.”
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said:
“The sheer number of organisations and groups coming together to pitch for funding is fantastic and testament to the good work that goes on in the area. The people of Kirkby are passionate about making a change and giving our young people the chance to access potentially life-changing possibilities. I look forward to hearing more from the groups who present and wish everyone the best of luck.”
