Freshwalks X Professional Liverpool

Old Roan - Maghull - Melling - Lydiate - Aughton (approx 11 miles)

GRADE: MODERATE

Welcome to Freshwalks, bringing North West business people together through the simplicity of walking and talking in association with Professional Liverpool. We are looking to kickstart the New Year with a long but flat canal walk.

This route starts at Old Roan railway station and takes in large sections of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. It passes through Aintree, Maghull, Melling, Lydiate, quiet picturesque country lanes of West Lancashire and pleasant tree lined roads in the Parish of Aughton before ending at Town Green railway station.

Walkers coming from the Merseyside area should meet us for breakfast from 09:00 at Leaf, 65-67 Bold St, Liverpool L1 4EZ. We then intend to take the 10:02 train from Liverpool Central to arrive at Old Roan 10:20.

Walkers coming from the Greater Manchester area should congregate on the concourse at Manchester Victoria train station between 07:40 and 07:45. We intend to take the 07:55 train to arrive at Liverpool Lime Street at 08:32 before walking round to Leaf.

If you wish to drive, I'd recommend parking at the finishing point - either the pub or Town Green train station - and catching a morning train to Old Roan (10 mins journey / trains every 15 mins). You can then walk back to your car. Please aim to arrive at Old Roan train station in good time making allowance for traffic and parking. We intend to start the walk immediately (10:20) once the train arrives from Liverpool.

We expect to arrive in Aughton between 14:30 and 15:00 where we will head to The Stanley Arms pub for a few drinks and a bite to eat. Full information will be sent out in the week prior to the walk.
