The Bulgarian Tall Ship Royal Helena was built in 2009 with the intention to promote Sail Training. Despite her young age, the Royal Helena has already taken part in many journeys and competed in 2016 Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta. Royal Helena is a three-masted Bulgarian barquentine with a hull made of steel and a teak-covered deck. She can accommodate up to 37 trainees for multiple-day journeys, and as many as 120 for day cruises. Being very new, the Ship combines the experience of sailing on traditional Tall Ships with all the modern comforts and safety features. Step on board to find the latest navigation equipment, air conditioning in cabins and water desalination plant, among others.
The Royal Helena will be at the Cruise Terminal. Sail time is 2-4 pm so please arrive at the terminal for 1.45. Food and drink will not be provided on board, however you can take a cool bag with you. For a cost of £21.50 you can buy a ticket for the Bordeaux Wine Festival. The whole of the pier head is being used. Such a ticket gains you access to the festival site and entitles you to 4 glasses of wine. There are many food concessions and entertainments until 10pm on site but you will only be able to access them if you have a festival ticket.
The cost of the “voyage” is £48 which includes vat. Please ensure that payment is made before we sail by either sending a cheque payable to Professional Liverpool, Suite 111D, Cotton Exchange, Bixteth St. Liverpool L3 9LQ or by bank transfer to Professional Liverpool SC 40-29-08, account number 22805650. If doing this, please ensure you clearly state your name and reference Tall Ships. We do not intend sending a receipted invoice unless you ask for one.
We have secured tickets for two sessions at Liverpool Town Hall. 12 -2pm on Thursday 24 May and 1-3 pm on Friday 25 May. Each session has a limit of 50 people. The cost is £72 including vat. For this you will get 6 Bordeaux wines and a talk taking you on a journey around various appellations. The Thursday session will be delivered by a wine merchant and will include cheeses and meats (so I am told), and the Friday session will be delivered by a Saint Emilion winemaker, hopefully with food as well. Payment in the manner above will be required before the event, specifying Wine Class as the reference if paying by bank transfer.
As numbers are limited, please e-mail John Hall if you intend to come to either the “voyage” or a masterclass, specifying which one. Feel free to invite friends as we do need to ensure a full complement for the events. We have reserved a number of Festival tickets for Sunday 27th. Please let John Hall know if you want any and if so, please adjust your payment appropriately
